Installing in Middlesbrough: what to know

Victorian terraces and back lanes

Linthorpe, North Ormesby and the streets around Albert Park are mostly terraced, and many have back lanes. Middlesbrough Council hasn’t published a cross-pavement policy, so for front-of-house parking we ask its highways team in writing before quoting.

Semis and estates in Acklam and Marton

Driveway homes in Acklam, Marton, Coulby Newham and Hemlington are standard 3–4 hour installs, with the charger sited for where you actually park.

Nunthorpe and the Cleveland villages

Larger detached homes towards Nunthorpe, Great Ayton and Guisborough often mean a longer cable run or a garage install. Your photos let us size the cable and fix the price before we arrive.

Our process

How installation works

Photo survey & fixed quote

Send a few photos of your fuse board and parking spot through the quote form. You get a fixed, fully-fitted price. Most installs need no home visit first.

Installation day

Most home installs take 3–4 hours. We route the cabling neatly, fit and commission the charger, and leave everything tested and tidy.

Handover & certification

We set up the app, pair your energy tariff and hand over your certificates. We notify the DNO and claim any grant on your behalf.

What goes into an EV charger installation in Middlesbrough

The questions that decide which charger you can have and what the install involves.

7kW suits most homes

Most Middlesbrough homes have a single-phase supply, which tops out at 7kW. That adds around 25–30 miles of range an hour, so an empty battery is full by morning on a cheap overnight tariff.

11kW and 22kW need three-phase

Three-phase supplies are rare in houses and common at farms and business premises. On three-phase we can fit an 11kW or 22kW charger, but many cars only accept 11kW on AC, so we check your car before recommending one.

Northern Powergrid and certification

Northern Powergrid runs the electricity network across Teesside, and we notify them of every charger we fit. If your main fuse is small or your supply is shared with a neighbour, we get their approval before install day. You get an Electrical Installation Certificate, and the job is registered with building control through NICEIC.

Solar panels and smart tariffs

If you have solar panels, a charger like the myenergi Zappi can charge from spare generation. Every charger we fit can be scheduled around cheap overnight tariffs, and we set up the app with you before we leave.

EV charger grants in Middlesbrough

Renters, flat owners, on-street households, landlords, businesses and schools in Middlesbrough can all get money off. We check which scheme applies when we quote and deduct it, so there's nothing to claim back.

Homeowners with their own driveway aren't eligible for the home grant. Rates checked September 2026; the schemes are funded until 31 March 2027.

No driveway where you are?

The council hasn’t published a policy on cross-pavement charging, so we ask its highways team in writing before quoting a channel. If the council approves a channel, we fit the charger and claim the grant.

What your council allows

EV charger installation in Middlesbrough: your questions

Do you cover Middlesbrough?

Yes. Middlesbrough is about 35 minutes from our Northallerton base, comfortably inside our patch, and we cover the surrounding areas too: Linthorpe, Acklam, Marton, Nunthorpe, Coulby Newham and the rest of the TS1–TS8 postcodes.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Middlesbrough?

The same fixed prices as everywhere we work: £916–£1,142 fully fitted depending on the charger, including cabling up to 5 metres, certification and DNO notification. There is no distance charge for Middlesbrough and nothing added on the day.

I live in a Middlesbrough terrace with no driveway. Can I still charge at home?

Possibly. If you can park in a rear yard or off a back lane, a charger can usually go there at our standard prices. For parking out front, Middlesbrough Council hasn't published a policy on cross-pavement channels, so we ask its highways team in writing before quoting, and nothing goes across the pavement without approval. If a channel is approved, on-street households can claim the £500 chargepoint grant.

Can I get a grant for an EV charger in Middlesbrough?

Yes, if you rent, own a flat or park on the street: the EV chargepoint grant takes up to £500 off. Landlords can claim £500 per socket at rental properties, and businesses £500 per socket through the Workplace Charging Scheme. Homeowners with their own driveway aren't eligible. We check which scheme applies when we quote and deduct it for you.

How soon can you install in Middlesbrough?

The photo survey replaces a home visit for most installs, so there is no extra appointment to wait for. Once you accept your fixed quote we book you into the next available slot and confirm the date with your quote.
